Royal CBD Review: Should You Buy? The Pros & Cons (2020)
Breaking into the CBD industry is not hard to do. Companies spring up overnight, cluttering the market with more CBD products and more claims of having the “highest quality” CBD, “greater bioavailability” of their oil or touting their “commitment to CBD and healthy living”. This kind of marketing is usually indicative of low-quality, and these kind of companies are not what CBD advocates had in mind when they were fighting for the legalization of CBD. Our review today is on Royal CBD, a CBD newcomer that isn’t interested in following the horde of companies looking to command market share. Here’s our Royal CBD review (updated for 2020).
Shining bright in the midst of a muddled CBD market, Royal CBD has decided to take a novel approach and focus on transparency, premium ingredients and delivering a product that makes them a promising CBD brand to look out for.
Based in California, Royal CBD is comprised of a group of cannabis advocates who were annoyed with the number of CBD brands popping up selling mediocre oil to people in need of real help.
What’s the use of being angry when, instead, you can make a change?
This is the sentiment that started Royal CBD and one the Hypothesis Journal team knows very well. The dissatisfaction they felt was channeled into the creation of a company that stresses quality, not quantity.
As this is a young brand, you won’t find a wide range of products from Royal CBD. They produce only two: full spectrum CBD oil and broad-spectrum gummies. What they don’t have in assortment, they make up for in quality.
Our team appreciates the simplicity of their offering and after trying both products, we’d be happy if they never added another product to the lineup.
Our Royal CBD Oil Review
The tinctures are all full spectrum, meaning users will benefit from the entourage effect, the combined effort of multiple cannabinoids working in your body. Along with CBD, Royal CBD’s tinctures contain essential trace amounts of CBN, CBG, CBC, CBC-A and terpenes.
Available in Natural flavor only, their 30ml oil is offered in two strengths:
- 250mg; 8.3mg CBD per ml
- 500mg; 17mg CBD per ml
The 250mg is around $55 and the 500mg about $80. They use hemp seed oil as a carrier for the CBD extract, which comes with its own set of benefits – omega fatty acids, iron, zinc, vitamin E and magnesium are just a few.
The Hypothesis Journal team was excited at trying this oil, though some of us were a little unhappy at the lack of flavor offerings. After putting a few drops of the 500mg under the tongue and holding for between 60 and 90 seconds we swished it around in our mouths a bit before swallowing.
The Natural flavor is not as delicious as the site will have you believe, but we can admit that it’s smoother than a lot of other brands we’ve tried in the past.
The flavor may not have been our thing, but the oil itself makes that a small price to pay. The effectiveness on anxiety and chronic pain after using only a half dropper was very good, a clear indication that the extract is of quality and the entourage effect was at work.
Royal CBD Gummies Review
Gummies are one of the more delicious ways to consume CBD and they offer a great way to make sure you’re taking a consistent dose.
Royal CBD gummies are dosed with broad-spectrum CBD. Broad spectrum CBD products allow you to have CBD along with other cannabinoids and terpenes, while simultaneously being free of THC. For those afraid of using CBD due to work-related drug tests, Royal CBD’s broad spectrum gummies are something to try.
Available in two strengths, both contain 30 gummies:
- 300mg; 10mg CBD per gummy
- 750mg; 25mg CBD per gummy
Pricing for the lower strength is about $50 and the higher dosage is around $80.
Royal CBD gummies have all-natural ingredients, no flavorings, and no medicine-like aftertaste. They are actually quite tasty. Gummies are great for those who want to stay away from e-liquids that contain unknown ingredients and who don’t like taking pills.
The team took one or two of the 10mg gummies, depending on our needs. It took about half an hour to an hour for them to kick in. The 10mg was nice, but at a low dosage, it didn’t pack a punch like the oil. It seems good for improving your mood and reducing low to mid-levels of stress.
Taking two definitely did the trick for a lot of the Hypothesis Journal team, so the 25mg CBD gummy will really be helpful to those looking for therapeutic qualities in their CBD. The 10mg gummies are good to use as a supplement.
Why Choose Royal CBD?
Strength isn’t everything. That couldn’t be truer when it comes to Royal CBD. Though they don’t have the highest oil concentrations, their oil works really well, doesn’t take too long to kick in and has staying power. A bottle will last you longer than it has any right to.
Every Batch is Tested
Royal CBD does not play around when it comes to transparency. They make sure that every batch of oil and gummies is tested by a third party. Third party labs provide the proof of any claims made by a company, as they have no affiliation with the company. Royal CBD’s lab results prove that their cannabinoids levels are consistent and they have a pure extract.
The less than stellar oils experienced by the Royal CBD founders have not been forgotten. They have taken extensive measures to make sure customers know exactly what they are spending their money on.
Certified Non-GMO Hemp Sourced in the US
Royal CBD knows the importance of using the best ingredients, especially when it comes to hemp. As a bioaccumulator, hemp will absorb anything in its environment, including any chemical fertilizers and pesticides.
Their hemp comes from farms in Colorado, North Carolina, and Oregon. These farms adhere to some of the strictest growing standards in the country and are certified with Good Manufacturing Practices. Royal CBD starts with the cleanest hemp possible.
Uses the Golden Standard for Extracting Hemp
Supercritical CO2 extraction is the best in the industry, though it’s not a requirement. Many companies use cheaper, more dangerous methods that involve propane or butane to extract cannabinoids. It’s no surprise that very few of them are of quality.
High pressure and low temperatures are employed in the supercritical CO2 process to remove cannabinoids form hemp. This ensures that no residue makes it into the final product and also preserves more terpenes than any other method.
Choose Between Full-Spectrum or Broad-Spectrum
Full-spectrum CBD products are usually the most popular because of their entourage effect properties. Because there is more than one type of cannabinoid present, the therapeutic benefits you receive are greater than what you’d get using CBD alone.
Broad-spectrum CBD is made using an isolate and contains 0% THC. Not only does this give many people peace of mind when it comes to drug testing policies, broad spectrum also gives you the other cannabinoids for a more impactful effect.
What Could Be Better?
Add a Few Options
There are only two products to choose from. The Hypothesis Journal team doesn’t mind this, but it is easy to understand that others may want greater options.
Flavors and oil strengths are also limited, though. If you hate the taste of natural CBD oil, you’ll want to look elsewhere, but you can always put this one in your food or drink to consume it. However, if you’re looking for higher concentrations, you’ll have to find another brand until Royal CBD releases more products.
Note: as of 2020, Royal CBD have now added CBD capsules and creams to their product range.
Taking things into their own hands, Royal CBD formed a company that produces high quality oil and forged a path for other newcomers to follow when it comes to transparency.
They have captured the attention of top CBD brands, CBD users and skeptics. That’s what happens when the bar is set high. They are clearly committed to the user and are worth giving a try.
